Petal and Pour, a French-Inspired Floral Atelier and Cafe, opens on Broad

This spring, something new is blooming in Chattanooga: an artisan cafe and atelier downtown, filled with fresh florals and curated home decor sourced directly from Europe.

Co-founded by Candace Barber and Keegan Chitwood, the pair have over six years of experience in the fashion industry and share a passion for intentional design and immersive experiences, which ultimately led to the creation of Petal and Pour.

La Mercerie, a 19th-century florist turned five-star French restaurant in New York, served as the initial inspiration. Acting as a one-stop shop, it reimagines dining and retail with a full-service, European-style restaurant attached to a home and gift store with florals to take home.

This concept, coupled with Barber’s French heritage and the serendipity of finding the perfect space, ultimately shaped what Petal and Pour would become. Chitwood recalled the moment it all clicked in the historic Elkins building.

“Candace and I were at a restaurant in New York together, and when they brought out our check, they included a postcard with their branding and offered to mail it for you. I remember taking a picture because I loved that concept,” Chitwood recalled.

“Then, when we toured the Elkins Building, we learned it was established in 1890 as the original post and trading stamp shop, The Stamp Collector, here in Chattanooga. So, tying that history into our branding, we wanted to create a brand rooted in heritage that transports you to the French countryside.”

Highlights of the store include the handcrafted signature candle featuring Mediterranean fig and pear top notes with amber vanilla and rosemary to finish, as well as florals sourced from both Europe and local farms, including Chickamauga’s Creekside Flower Farm.

Whether you’re looking for a midday pick-me-up, a thoughtful gift, or a fresh bouquet for your home, Petal and Pour is the perfect place to swing by and slow down. Open seven days a week, it serves not only as a coffee shop, florist, and home and gifts store, but a perfect French culmination of the three.
