The Spanish National Football Team is Here for the Summer

There’s something in the air in Chattanooga, and it’s not just the summer heat.

After months of anticipation, the Spanish National Football Team has officially arrived in the Scenic City, bringing a lively and unmistakable energy to downtown Chattanooga. Since the announcement that Chattanooga would serve as the team's home base during the World Cup, excitement has continued to build throughout the community, and was on full display upon their arrival. Fans lined the fences, climbed into trees, sang, cheered, and waved their flags with open arms, marking the beginning of the team’s journey to compete for the world’s most coveted prize in soccer.

A section of Broad Street was temporarily closed to accommodate the team's arrival, and one portion will remain closed for the duration of the team’s stay. Visitors may also notice additional security measures around the Embassy Suites for the rest of the summer. Throughout downtown, red flags and Spanish-themed displays serve as a visible reminder that one of the world's most recognizable soccer programs now calls Chattanooga home.

Known around the world as La Roja, the No. 2-ranked men’s soccer team will be training at Baylor School between matches throughout the tournament. Shortly after arriving in Chattanooga, the team hosted a public practice, giving 200 lucky fans the chance to watch some of the world's top players train up close.

Baylor School and locations throughout downtown underwent large-scale visual transformations, with custom banners, graphics, and displays helping to create a welcoming environment for the team and its supporters.

For the Downtown Chattanooga Alliance, moments like this highlight what makes downtown special. Chattanooga's walkability, welcoming atmosphere, and strong sense of community create opportunities for residents and visitors alike to come together around experiences like this. Hosting an internationally recognized team brings new attention to the city while giving locals a chance to be part of a truly memorable chapter in Chattanooga's story.

Whether you're cheering for Spain, the United States, or another nation competing this summer, one thing is certain: this World Cup season will be unlike any Chattanooga has experienced before. As you explore downtown, keep an eye out—you never know when you might spot some of the world's best footballers enjoying their time in the Scenic City.
